Phil Coolican and Ian Betterridge

Phyllis Betterridge
Ladies Minor Singles
Champion 2016
Ian Betterridge has won the 2016 Minor Singles Championship from Phil Coolican 31 - 22. Ian had a tough match with Glen Richmond in the semi final and made his way to the final with a score of 31-29 over Glen.  Phil Coolican played Paul Charge in the other semi final and the score of 31-30 over Paul tells it's own story.  Well done to the Betterridge family this year - Phyllis Betterridge won the Ladies Minor Singles only weeks ago. Now, husband Ian has won the Mens Minor Singles to make it a double whammy for the duo!

First 2016 Minor Singles Quarter Final

The first of the 2016 Minor Singles Quarter Finals has been won by Paul Charge from Kevin Ivins 31 - 28.  A hard fought match that gave no hint as to who would be the eventual winner until the very last bowls on the very last end.  Congratulations to Paul Charge on his advancement to the semi final and well done Kevin for making him work very hard to get there.

Luxford and Kalms steal the Championship with the Last Bowl!

Don Brann and Warwick McDonald led the Club Pairs final all the way only to go down on the last end to the final bowl from Dale Kalms.  The final score was 20-19.  Warwick and Don played a great game against two very experienced campaigners who began to peg back the 16-6 deficit to come within striking distance of 19-15 with one end left to play.  Last bowl and needing 5 to win, Dale Kalms played his best shot of the match to take out the opposition 3rd shot.  This gave Luxford and Kalms 5 shots and the title of Cub Pairs Champions for 2016.  Congratulations to all 4 players on an exciting match.

End of Our Pennant Season

Our guests were Bateau Bay 7's and Gwandalan 3's.  Unfortunately the points went home with the guests but they did leave us with some good memories below.  Good luck to Bateau Bay in the playoffs. More photos in the photo gallery on the left.

New Champion 2016!

The 2016 Major Singles Championship was decided in a thrilling match today. Darren Hooper and Terry Gains played  a very entertaining match that kept all spectators glued to their seats for 37 ends.  Darren led early and the game looked as if it would be a little one sided, until Terry dug deep and gradually pegged him back to stay within reach. Darren maintained his lead for most of the match but Terry was dogged and the match was poised at 30 - 30 at 36 ends. Terry held his nerve and came out the winner from Darren 31 - 30 after 37 very skillful ends of bowling from both players. Spectators agreed that this was maybe the best final they have seen for a long time. Well done to both Terry and Darren. Congratulations to Terry Gains our new 2016 Major Singles Champion and to Darren Hooper a very worthy Runner Up.  More images in the Photo Gallery.
